Hundreds of residents at 21 Colten Care homes across the south celebrated Burns Night in \u00a0of the famous 18th<\/sup> century bard Robert Burns.<\/p>\n In line with annual tradition, poetry recitals were the order of the day along with lunches and suppers featuring haggis, neeps and tatties.<\/p>\n While Covid constraints meant homes could not welcome visiting bagpipers and dancers as they usually do, residents nevertheless enjoyed festive fun.<\/p>\n At Avon Cliff in Bournemouth, Companionship Team Members Brian Knight and Rebecca Osborne wore kilts with their PPE and performed Highland dancing together.<\/p>\n Brian also did a tour of the home calling at residents\u2019 bedrooms to read out selections of Burns\u2019 poetry.<\/p>\n \u201cI told him he looked very fetching in his \u2018skirt\u2019,\u201d said Lois Barber, while fellow resident Ray Paice said: \u201cIt was very amusing and got us into the spirit of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n A number of homes decorated residents\u2019 lounges with tartans and thistles.<\/p>\n Kirsty Richmond Cole, Companionship Team Leader at Outstanding-rated Amberwood House in Ferndown, Dorset, said: \u201cWe had a whole afternoon consisting of all things Scottish.<\/p>\n \u201cWe held a quiz to test everyone\u2019s knowledge of Burns and invited residents to sample a range of whiskies and shortbread.<\/p>\n \u201cWe discussed how whisky is made and where famous malts originate from.\u201d<\/p>\n Tracey Aldin, Home Manager at Brook View in West Moors, Dorset, said the annual event had become a firm favourite with residents.<\/p>\n \u201cWe hold a Burns celebration every year and it always proves popular with residents from both north and south of the border,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n Burns Night is a worldwide commemoration, held every year on the anniversary of \u2018Rabbie\u2019s\u2019 birth in Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1759.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The post Care homes toast \u2018Rabbie\u2019 in Burns Night celebration first appeared on Care Industry News.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
